Strengthening Ties: Representatives from Thuringia visit the Charlotte Region

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung/Foundation, one of the three largest political think tanks in Germany invited a representative group from Thuringia, led by its President of Parliament Christian Carius who was accompanied by members of the Federal and State Parliament on Sunday, Oct 30.
A brief introduction was given followed by a speech of Mayor Jennifer Roberts. The liens with Thuringia are tightening. This was the third mutual meeting this year and an economic delegation from this energetic state is expected to visit Charlotte in May 2017. This will be under the leadership of Economic Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee, formerly Federal Minister for Transport.

FC Bayern Munich Board Members Celebrate International Champion Cup Game in Charlotte

Charlotte, July 29, 2016—FC Bayern Munich board members, led by the Club’s chief executive officer, Karl-Heinz Rumenigge, invited dignitaries of city and county as well as representatives of the business community to an exclusive reception and subsequent dinner at the prestigious Charlotte City Club on the eve of the game vs. Inter Milan. Strengthening ties: 12 member delegation from the Charlotte region visits Karlsruhe

The N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation board member and Executive Director of the Charlotte Regional Collaborative for a Global Economy, Michael Almond, along with other influential members of the community visited the Karlsruhe region to strengthen the partnership between Central Piedmont Community College, the IHK-Karlsruhe, and the Charlotte region overall. 

Mark Pringle, Retired Vice President of Siemens Charlotte Energy Hub, Receives 2016 Leadership in International Commerce Award

The Charlotte World Trade Association (CWTA) awarded the 2016 Leadership in International Commerce Award to Mark Pringle, recently retired Vice President of Siemens Charlotte Energy Hub.  Under Mark’s leadership and vision,  the company turned around from the brink of collapse to a massive expansion that resulted in the Charlotte facility becoming the global manufacturing and service hub for Siemens Energy and the nationwide poster child for advanced manufacturing.
 
Gunda Knese, CWTA board member and president of the N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation, introduced and presented the award to Mark Pringle.

Klaus Becker strengthens relationship between Charlotte and Thuringia

​Klaus Becker, chair of The N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation, recently visited the formerly East German State of Thuringia and met with the President of the State Parliament Christian Carius, with Dr. Mario Voigt, member of the parliament, a group of local entrepreneurs, and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce in Erfurt. Possiblities of strengthening ties between Thuringia and the Charlotte area were discussed; tentatively, it is planned that an economic delegation will visit the Southeast in May of next year and opportunities to stage an event together for the Luther-Year in 2017 are being evaluated.

N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation Hosts Reception for Soccer Star Paul Breitner

Playing an instrumental part in bringing FC Bayern Munich, one of the most successful soccer teams in the world, to Charlotte, the N.C. Zeitgeist Foundation hosted a reception for Paul Breitner at Quail Hollow on May 18. Breitner, former World Cup Champion and today's official brand ambassador of FC Bayern Munich, came to Charlotte to meet with soccer fans and raise interest among Germans and German companies for the game  FC Bayern Munich against InterMilano on July 30.
 
The evening included a panel discussion with Charlotte's mayor, Jennifer Roberts, and German Honorary Consul and Chairman of the Zeitgeist Foundation, Klaus Becker, covering a wide range of questions on soccer, sports in general, and the important role it can play, in particular, in the life of young people.
 
Breitner, who is fluent in several languages, actively engaged with the 125 guests, including city officials, international business people and enthusiastic soccer fans and made sure everyone had a really good time.

Ambassador Wittig Tours Charlotte, North Carolina

H.E. Peter Wittig, Ambassador of Germany to the United States and his wife, journalist and writer Huberta von Voss-Wittig, traveled to Charlotte on the invitation of the Honorary Consul and CEO of Nirosteel, Klaus Becker. The Ambassador and his wife toured one of Siemens USA’s biggest manufacturing plants, the local training facility at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC). After the tours Ambassador Wittig was the keynote speaker at a luncheon hosted by the World Affairs Council of Charlotte, where he spoke to the bilateral relationship between Germany and the U.S., joint initiatives, current affairs and Germany's presence within the Charlotte region. Later that evening, he and Huberta attended The German Opera Gala, an event celebrating Germany’s long opera tradition. Read more about his visit here.
